Clamping Collars for Pressure Gauges – Secure Mounting & Service-Friendly Installation
Clamping collars for pressure gauges enable front or rear panel mounting of gauges and digital gauges in panels, doors or enclosures. They provide a play-free fit, protect against vibration, and make precise dial alignment easy—without special drilling patterns or custom brackets.
Available for common dial sizes (e.g. DN 40/50/63/100/160), in carbon steel and stainless steel, with optional PU/rubber inserts for damping. ICS Schneider Messtechnik can supply pre-assembled sets including the gauge, gasket and matching clamping collar—documented and tagged for fast commissioning.
FAQ on Clamping Collars for Gauges
Selection, dimensions, materials, installation and best practices—short & to the point.
What are clamping collars used for?
For panel mounting of gauges. The collar clamps the case inside the cut-out, prevents rotation, reduces vibration and creates a clean, flush front.
Which sizes are common?
| Gauge dial size | Typical panel cut-out | Note |
|---|---|---|
| DN 40 / 50 | ≈ Ø 45–52 mm | Compact panels, tight spaces |
| DN 63 | ≈ Ø 60–62 mm | Standard in HVAC/machinery |
| DN 100 | ≈ Ø 99–101 mm | Good readability |
| DN 160 | ≈ Ø 159–161 mm | High accuracy/test benches |
Note: Always check the manufacturer’s datasheet; exact dimensions vary by model.
What materials are clamping collars made from?
Zinc-plated steel for standard environments; stainless steel 304/316(L) for corrosive or hygienic areas. Rubber/PU liners improve grip and damp vibrations.
How do I choose the right collar?
| Criterion | Recommendation |
|---|---|
| Dial/case diameter | Match collar to the gauge case size |
| Panel thickness | Choose a collar with adequate clamping range |
| Environment | Use stainless steel for moisture/chemicals |
| Vibration | Prefer versions with damping insert |
What is the correct installation procedure?
- Make the panel cut-out to spec; deburr edges.
- Insert the gauge from the front; place the clamping collar from the rear.
- Tighten evenly, align the dial, then torque to the manufacturer’s spec.
Does a clamping collar affect measurement?
Indirectly positive: a more stable seat improves readability; the measurement function itself is unchanged.
What mistakes should be avoided?
- Cut-out too small/large → poor clamping or case distortion.
- Unsuitable panel thickness → collar does not clamp properly.
- Overtightening → housing damage or stress.
Are versions available for rear/side process connections?
Yes. Clamping collars are generally connection-agnostic; just consider case depth and connection orientation (radial/axial) when planning the cut-out.
Compatible with digital gauges?
Usually yes—provided case diameter and depth match. Ensure display alignment before final tightening.
What about IP protection and sealing?
The collar itself does not seal the front. For higher ingress protection, add a front gasket (e.g. O-ring/flat gasket) and keep the panel surface flat and clean.
Is use in hazardous (Ex) areas possible?
Yes—the collar is a mechanical part. For electrical add-ons (contact gauges), observe the Ex approval of the overall assembly.
Does ICS Schneider provide sets & documentation?
Yes—ready-to-install packages with gauge, clamping collar, gasket, labeling, and—on request— material/test documentation (e.g. EN 10204 3.1).
