The safe handling of heavy loads is essential for both smooth operation and the protection of operating personnel. Precise monitoring prevents overloads and contributes to workplace safety.

Indoors: In production facilities and workshops, the transport of heavy goods often occurs with the help of overhead cranes. We continuously provide force measuring load pins for these tasks, which can replace conventional, non-measuring axles. In addition, tension/compression force transducers are used, which are directly integrated into the load path and supplemented by appropriate overload switches. For the inspection of safety couplings on lifting equipment, WIKA offers special test sets for chain hoists, enabling quick and straightforward checks.

Outdoors: When used outdoors, such as in port cranes or maritime applications on supply ships and drilling platforms, our devices meet the strict certification standards of DNV GL. Regulations for safety controls, as outlined in the Machinery Directive (2006/42/EC), include requirements for overload controls and emergency stop circuits. WIKA has developed the first system solution certified in Germany for overload protection in crane applications. This innovative system consists of up to eight redundantly designed force sensors, a central control unit, and specialized software for the user to ensure the highest safety standards while optimizing load handling efficiency.

The dynarope tension meter is a precision device for measuring forces in a tensioned cable or rope. The meter can be attached directly to the cable and has a fixed display. Applications: antenna wires, suspension bridges, electronics, sailing ships, etc. When the tension meter is placed on a tensioned cable, the load cell will generate a signal which is more or less proportional to the force. There is a large variety of cables, each cable having its own characteristics such as composition, diameter, rigidity, density, etc. The database includes several basic wire rope data. The HF 37 series can be connected to a PC for managing and storing measurement results. Delivery (kit) includes: Plastic case, measuring sensor with display, batteries, USB cable and software loader light. Including: CE certificate, calibration report and user and maintenance manual. A convenient weigher including hooks for measuring small weights quickly and easily.

Force measurement in pretensioned ropes.

The force sensor HySense® FO 110 is a shear force sensor according the deflecting beam principle. Since a force and the deflection of a beam is proportional, this sensor is able to determine a force by measuring its elongation or change in length. Due to its compact design, these traction-pressure force sensors can be used in the laboratory, as well as in industrial environments. Made with corrosion-proof steel, HySense® FO 110 have a standardized nominal characteristic value. They can be mounted easily allowing simple integration into existing structures. It is available for several measurement ranges from 0-20 kN. Measuring / collection of e.g.

  • moulding and insertion forces
  • spring forces
  • cutting forces
  • force and force control during assembly
  • pressing forces in drilling machines

The force sensor HySense® FO 210 is a traction force sensor. It works to the principle of centerline force measurement. The force sensor is a threaded rod. This allows easy and universal fastening. The application chamber for the resistance strain gauge is protected from mechanical and chemical damage by an aluminium tube, cast with a highly elastic compound. Full bridges of resistance strain gauges measure the elongation and lateral expansion caused by traction forces. It is available for several measurement ranges from 0-250 kN. Applications / measurement ranges:

    • Lifts
    • Cranes and housings
    • Twistings of masts, towers or platforms

Measurement of tensile strength of guide ropes. Easy solution without disassembly of the taut cable.
