Gas density is a crucial operating parameter for high-voltage switchgears. If the required gas density is not present, safe operation of the plant cannot be guaranteed. The WIKA gas density measuring instruments provide reliable warnings against dangerously low gas concentrations even in extreme environmental conditions. If the gas density decreases due to a leakage the magnetic snap-action contacts, which are actuated by the pointer, switch reliably and with repeatable accuracy.

Conventional pressure gauges are not suitable here as the gas pressure changes depending on the ambient temperature, altitude and even atmospheric pressure. The above factors together can amount up to 20 % of the working pressure and thus falsify the measurement significantly. For this reason, all WIKA gas density measuring instruments are temperature compensated and hermetically sealed.
