Portable Pressure Calibrators – Reliable Precision in the Field

Portable pressure calibrators combine pressure generation, reference sensing, and evaluation in compact, rugged devices for service, maintenance, and QA. Covering vacuum to high pressure, gauge/absolute/differential, and optional electrical functions (mA, V, Hz, RTD simulation, switch test), they enable fast, traceable checks directly on site.

ICS Schneider Messtechnik supplies complete kits with adapter cases, seal assortments, media handling, and optional DAkkS/ISO calibration. On request we integrate documentation apps and interfaces to CAQ/CMMS/ERP.

FAQ on Portable Pressure Calibrators

Answers to common questions about selection, accuracy, media, adapters, documentation, and best practices in field use.

What are portable calibrators best suited for?

For on-site verification of transmitters, switches, gauges, and indicators—during commissioning, troubleshooting, periodic calibration, and instrument verification.

Which device types are available?

TypeCharacteristicsUse Case
Hand calibrator (electrical + pressure)Compact, battery-powered, integrated sensorsService, routine checks
Pressure calibrator with pumpBuilt-in vacuum/pressure pump, fine adjust valveField calibration up to mid ranges
Handheld reference gaugeHigh precision, often swappable modulesComparative/reference measurements

How do I choose the measuring range?

Select the DUT working range with +20–30% headroom. For many DUTs, consider multi-range units or interchangeable modules.

What reference accuracy should I target?

As a guideline, a 4:1–10:1 ratio between reference accuracy and allowed DUT tolerance. Mind the total error band over the specified temperature range.

Gas vs. liquid in field work?

CriterionGas (air/N₂)Liquid (oil/water)
CleanlinessNo medium carryoverPossible medium contact
StabilityFast, more “elastic”Very stable, fine dosing
Pressure levelVacuum to mid pressureHigh pressure/small dead volume

Which electrical functions are helpful?

  • mA source/sink (4–20 mA), voltage (0–10 V)
  • Loop power (24 V) for 2-wire transmitters
  • RTD/TC simulation for temperature channels
  • Frequency/Hz and switch test

How do I document calibrations efficiently?

Use devices with data logging and app/PC software; export as CSV/PDF. Capture tag ID, environment, point list (up/down), deviation, and pass/fail.

What adapters are recommended for field work?

A universal set with G/NPT, quick couplers, cone/O-ring adapters, plus a seal kit (NBR/FKM/EPDM/PTFE). Include thread sealant (e.g., PTFE tape).

How to handle very low pressures (mbar)?

Use a low-pressure pump with fine valve, minimize system volume, avoid drafts, allow stabilization, and employ a high-resolution reference.

Tips to avoid leaks and drift?

  • Perform a pressure hold test before the run
  • Inspect hoses/adapters for wear
  • Replace seals proactively

What battery life can I expect?

Typically 8–40 hours depending on display brightness, pump usage, and logging. Carry a spare battery/power bank; enable auto-off and dimming.

Which environmental factors matter?

Target 20 ±2 °C, avoid vibration; for outdoor jobs check IP rating and condensation protection.

Gauge, absolute, or differential in the field?

Depends on the DUT: gauge (g) is common in process, absolute for vacuum/barometry, differential for filters/flow.

How should I structure the test sequence?

Multipoint (e.g., 0/25/50/75/100/75/50/25/0%), with up/down cycles for hysteresis and 2–3 repeats per point after stabilization.

Any safety notes?

Wear PPE (glasses/gloves), use tested hoses/adapters, change pressure slowly, never disconnect under pressure, and strictly observe device limits.

Can I mix field and lab calibration?

Yes—perform field checks (as-found/as-left) and annual DAkkS/ISO recalibration of the reference in the lab, including adjustment/offset management.

Which interfaces are useful?

USB/Bluetooth for transfer, optionally Wi-Fi for cloud/CMMS upload. Maintain unique device and tag IDs.

Do you offer preconfigured service kits?

Yes—combinations with pump, reference module, adapter & seal kit, hoses, and documentation templates, with training on request.

How do I choose the right model?

Tell us your pressure ranges, media, connections, target accuracy, and documentation needs. We’ll propose a scalable solution with headroom and accessories.
