CA 6418 earth clamp meter with elongated jaw for earth tapes
The Chauvin Arnoux CA 6418 earth clamp meter is specifically designed for testing earth loops on flat earth tapes. Its elongated measuring jaw reliably encloses flat steel tapes without disconnecting the conductor and without the use of auxiliary earth stakes. The instrument is designed for daily use under demanding conditions.
The CA 6418 measures the loop impedance of an earthing network non-invasively using the clamp measurement principle: an excitation winding in the measuring jaw generates a defined AC voltage, while a receiver winding measures the resulting current. The loop impedance is then calculated from these values. Its particular strength is the elongated measuring jaw, which can enclose flat earth tapes of different widths that cannot be measured using conventional round clamps. In addition to resistance measurements, the instrument measures leakage currents in the earthing network and provides an adjustable alarm when defined limit values are exceeded. This makes the instrument suitable for both routine testing and safety-critical inspections.
Your benefits at a glance
- Elongated measuring jaw specifically designed for earth tapes – enables reliable measurements on flat earth tapes that cannot be enclosed by conventional round clamps
- Measurements without disconnecting the conductor and without auxiliary earth stakes – saves time and enables testing even in difficult-to-access environments
- On-site adjustment without returning the instrument to the manufacturer – the optional CL1 calibration loop with 5 fixed resistance values enables independent testing and adjustment of the clamp directly via the integrated setup menu
- Adjustable resistance and current alarms – provides reliable warnings when defined limit values are exceeded
- Automatic air-gap compensation during switch-on – ensures stable and reproducible measurement results
- Automatic PRE-HOLD mode – freezes the measured value on the display when the clamp is opened
- Memory for 300 time-stamped measurements directly in the instrument
Typical applications
- Earthing tests on lightning protection systems with earth tapes
- Earthing tests in areas where auxiliary earth stakes cannot be inserted into the ground
- Parallel earthing measurements in high- and low-voltage transformer substations
- Earthing tests in urban areas and Faraday-shielded buildings
- Measurements on telecommunications cable networks, including shield earthing and common-mode currents
- Earthing checks along railway lines, including poles, rails and fences
- Testing earthing systems on above-ground and underground pipelines
- Testing interconnected earthing systems and foundation earth electrodes
