Construction Ring current transformer manufactured with measuring winding only
Working principle Active line conductors pass through the toroid and create a magnetic field proportional to their own current
Residual current detection In fault-free operation, the vector sum of the currents is zero; a leakage to ground creates an imbalance proportional to the leakage current
Signal transmission The imbalance is detected by the toroid and sent to the residual current device
Transformer selection According to the lowest residual current to be detected and the hole diameter through which all active conductors must pass
Relay connection When using high-sensitivity residual current devices, attention must be paid to the distance between the ring current transformer and the relay
