Siemens SITRANS FM MAG 1100 and MAG 1100 HT Flow Sensors
The Siemens SITRANS FM MAG 1100 is an electromagnetic flow sensor in a compact sandwich design. It has been developed for flow applications in various process industries and is particularly suitable for installations where a space-saving design, high material resistance and reliable measured values are required.
Thanks to its installation between standard flanges, the sensor can be flexibly integrated into existing piping systems. The combination of stainless steel housing, high-quality liners and different electrode materials makes the MAG 1100 a robust solution for chemically demanding and hygienically oriented applications.

Typical applications
The SITRANS FM MAG 1100 is used in applications where conductive liquids must be measured reliably and a compact sensor design is required. Typical applications include:
- Process industry
- Chemical industry
- Pharmaceutical industry
- Water treatment, for example chemical dosing
- Compact dosing and process systems
- Measuring points with limited installation space
Measuring principle
The MAG 1100 operates according to the electromagnetic measuring principle. When an electrically conductive liquid flows through a magnetic field, a voltage is induced. This voltage is proportional to the flow velocity of the medium and is detected by the electrodes in the sensor.
As there are no moving parts in the measuring tube, the measuring method is low-wear and easy to maintain. This is particularly advantageous in applications with chemical media, dosing processes or processes requiring stable and repeatable flow measurement.
Design and materials
The sensor is designed as a compact sandwich construction and is installed between two pipe flanges. The sensor housing is made of corrosion-resistant AISI 316 stainless steel. Highly resistant liners and electrode materials are available for contact with the medium, allowing the sensor to be adapted to different process media.
For applications with elevated temperatures, the SITRANS FM MAG 1100 HT is available. This high-temperature version is suitable for processes with temperatures up to 200 °C and extends the application range of the series in demanding industrial processes.
Integration with transmitters
The complete flowmeter consists of the sensor and an associated transmitter, for example SITRANS FM MAG 5000, MAG 6000 or MAG 6000 I. Thanks to the flexible communication concept, the measuring system can be easily integrated into automation and control systems.
Depending on the transmitter used, various communication options are available, including HART, FOUNDATION Fieldbus H1, DeviceNet, PROFIBUS DP, PROFIBUS PA and Modbus RTU/RS485.
