5-wire bus system for DIN rail DIN rail profile and bus length, see table (Complete kit without DIN rail)
Power terminal for installations with In-Rail-Bus system The 6.2 mm wide Power Terminal DZU 1401 are used for supplying the In-Rail-Bus DIN rail connector with supply voltage up to 32 V DC. The Power Terminal DZU1401 for standard applications with 4.5 A output current is able to power up to 120 signal converter.
Power terminal for installations with In-Rail-Bus system The 6.2 mm wide Power Terminal DZU 1402 are used for supplying the In-Rail-Bus DIN rail connector with supply voltage up to 32 V DC. The Power Terminal DZU1402 with two separate and reverse polarity protected voltage inputs allow a redundant voltage supply and a maximum current of 3 A. The status of the power supply of both voltage inputs will be displayed each by a LED on front. A green LED lights up when there is supply voltage on the voltage input. A red LED indicates reversed polarity.

Safety caps right/left as a spare part (The kits includes safety caps)
Cost-effective and fast solution for small In-Rail-Bus installations. The In-Rail-Mini is used to put the supply voltage 24 V DC into the In-Rail-Bus connector. Line E is available for group messages, e.g. for a group error message. The In-Rail-Minis are available for DIN rail heights of 7.5 mm and 15 mm (see order information). There is room for up to 6 devices from our 6mm series on the in-rail minis.
The Modbus RTU Connection Module is used to connect the 24 V supply and the Modbus lines A and B to the In-Rail-Bus DIN rail connector. The power supply and the Modbus lines are connected to the terminals of the module (screw terminals). The connection to the In-Rail-Bus DIN rail connector is made via the rear spring contacts. All other DRAGO I/O modules are thus pre-wired via the In-Rail Bus with power supply and bus lines. DIP switches can be used to switch the termination and polarization resistors normally used for RS485 interfaces. An additional line is available for group messages, e.g. for a group error message, as far as this is supported by the I/O modules. The Modbus RTU connection module can also be used for feed out, especially if further modules are to be connected in separate installations. Additional terminals for the bus lines are provided for this purpose.

Modbus I/O Modules for Control Cabinets and Automation Systems
Modbus I/O modules are interface devices providing digital and/or analog inputs and outputs, which communicate via the Modbus protocol. They allow sensors, meters, actuators or switches spread across a plant or distribution board to connect to a central controller or SCADA system. This enables centralized data collection, control and monitoring with minimal wiring effort.
Questions & Answers
What is a Modbus I/O module?
It is a peripheral device offering several input and output channels (digital or analog), connected to a controller or PLC via Modbus (e.g. Modbus RTU over RS-485 or Modbus TCP). It collects inputs (sensor signals, contacts) and provides outputs (digital switching, analog control) in a flexible way.
Which types of inputs and outputs are supported?
Depending on the module, supported channels may include digital inputs (switches, contacts), digital outputs (relays, transistors), analog inputs (voltage, current, sensor signals), analog outputs (voltage or current signals), or combinations. This makes it possible to interface a variety of sensors, meters and actuators.
How does communication to a controller work?
The module uses the Modbus protocol (RTU or TCP) to exchange data. Inputs are read by the master (e.g. PLC or SCADA), outputs are set via Modbus commands. This enables data centralization and control over a common bus instead of individual wiring for each signal.
Where are Modbus I/O modules typically used?
They are used in automation systems, energy monitoring, machine control, building management, distribution panels, decentralized measurement points, and any application where many sensors/actuators are present and a bus-based central integration is desired.
What are the advantages of using Modbus I/O modules?
They reduce wiring complexity, allow scalable and flexible expansion, simplify signal integration, centralize data access, and support various sensor and actuator types — making system extension and maintenance easier.
What should be considered when selecting a Modbus module?
You need to match required input/output types (digital/analog), number of channels, signal ranges, communication type (RTU or TCP), required galvanic isolation or protection, and compatibility with existing control equipment.
How is setup and configuration done?
Addressing and configuration (channel assignment, signal type, scaling, baud rate, parity etc.) is typically done via configuration tools or front-panel settings. Once configured, the module communicates over Modbus and can be read or controlled by the master.
Is Modbus a standard protocol and widely supported?
Yes — Modbus is a widely used open communication standard. Modules from different manufacturers are largely compatible as long as communication settings match. This ensures interoperability and flexibility.
